EUKIT - Knowledge and Innovation for the European Trade Challenges : Research

Research

EUKIT is thoroughly convinced that teaching and research are two sides of the same coin. Among other factors, teaching excellence should be firmly rooted in the findings of cutting-edge scientific research. Likewise, one of the long-term goals of research should be to create knowledge that enriches teaching practice and content at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

This section presents the results of research produced under the umbrella of the EUKIT project in general. Scientific contributions made by members of the EUKIT team are followed by work from the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Final Projects by students supervised by members of the EUKIT team.

Is the EU GSP+ program an effective tool in promoting good governance? The case of Pakistan.

Project supervisor: Joan Pere Plaza i Font

Descripción

The purpose of this study is to estimate the impact of the accession of Pakistan into the EU GSP+ scheme in terms of good governance. For evaluating good governance outcomes, an extension of the “GSP+ Compliance Selective Index”, devised by Lebzelter and Marx (2020), has been employed. By applying econometric methods such as the Difference-in-Differences and the Synthetic Control Method this study intends to isolate the causal impact of the program. The results indicate that the GSP+ program improves compliance outcomes in Pakistan. Nevertheless, such impact appears to weaken throughout time.
