Students who started a university degree course at a Catalan university during the 2014–2015 academic year or later are required to prove their proficiency in a foreign language by the end of their degree course. In accordance with Article 211 of Act 2/2014, of 27 January 2014, on knowledge of a foreign language, published in the Catalan Government Gazette (DOGC) No. 6551 on 30 January 2014 (catalan version), students may choose a foreign language from the list provided for university entrance exams (PAU) and should achieve a proficiency level equivalent to B2 on the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Students may prove their level of proficiency by passing either the Catalan Universities Language Certificate (CLUC) exam set at all Catalan universities or a similar accredited CEFR-compatible language exam.
At its meeting on 2 July 2014, the UPF Governing Body made proficiency in a foreign language a prerequisite for students to be awarded their degree, thus incorporating this government stipulation into UPF’s degree courses.
Further information is available on the following UPF websites:
- Grants provided by the Catalan Ministry of Economic Affairs and Knowledge for learning a foreign language (Programa PARLA3) (catalan version)
- Certificates and diplomas of Level B2 proficiency in a foreign language (English, French, German or Italian) (catalan version)
